LULA (KIMBROUGH) WILSON departed this life on Saturday, March 19, 2016 surrounded by family at Hospice of Dayton. Lula was born to George and Elizabeth Kimbrough on January 27, 1935 in Eutaw, AL. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, George and Elizabeth Kimbrough and her step-mother Cleave Lee Kimbrough; a dedicated and dear sister Anna G. Wilcoxson; three brothers, Samuel and Roseman Kimbrough and Clarence Lewis; sisters, Daisy Easter and Lillian Turner; two step-sisters, Sarah Jackson and Carolyn Gillam.
Lula began her career as a traveling insurance agent. She later moved to Dayton, OH and began working at a restaurant called Goody Goody on Salem Avenue. She was later employed in Downtown Dayton's the Joy Shop and at Elder Beerman as a salesclerk. After working various jobs, Lula decided to pursue her college education. Lula was blessed to be hired by the prestigious General Motors (Delphi) where she retired after 32 years of dedicated service. Lula developed many close friendships there and was endearingly known as, "the woman who didn't take any mess!" While Lula was authentic and frank speaking, she exuded grace, class and dignity.
Lula was lead to Christ by the late Mother Annie Cooper. She became a member of Prayer Garden Church of God in Christ in the late 1950's. As a young woman she resided with the late Mother Ella Mae Coleman and the late Mother Virginia Hudson. Because she was a young woman of character, she chose to remain with them until she met and married her husband Adam Wilson. Two children were born to this union, Charmain and Adam (aka Timmy). Lula served faithfully at Prayer Garden for over 30 years until she moved to Faith Deliverance Church of God in Christ where she remained a faithful, member until her health began to fail.
Lula had a very deep unconditional love for her family. She was a very doting grandmother. She loved to spoil each one of her grandchildren and generously lavish them with love, affection, money and gifts. She always encouraged her children and her grandchildren to be respectful, to be the best they could be and to never settle for less. Lula had a special bond with her grand-daughter Melanie Wilson-Spencer. Melanie is most like her. It should be noted that Melanie accompanied her grandmother to Hospice of Dayton from Soin Medical Center. She never left her side and remained with her until her demise. Lula not only loved her grandchildren but she had a special love for all children. Every week she would roll up dollar bills and give them to all of the children in the church. She has un-selfishly done this for many years. The children would anxiously line-up after church on Sundays to receive these dollars. Not only did the children benefit from the blessings of Lula but the church vendors would be excited because the children would rush to purchase all the "goodies" sold with those dollars. Over the years she has generously given thousands of dollars to the children of Faith Deliverance.
Lula leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 54 years, Adam Wilson, Sr; her children, Charmaine Dunn of Gainesville, VA and Adam Timothy (Ramona) Wilson of Huber Heights, OH; three Sisters, Mary Smith of Dayton, OH, Barbara Hendricks and Juanelle Hamilton of Michigan. Her Grandchildren, A. Timothy Wilson, Jr., Melanie (Trey) Spencer, David Dunn, Jr., Monique (Donovan) Lewis, Martina (Justin) Sanderson, Nicolas (Sheila) Wilson of Mountain Home, Idaho, U.S. Air Force; Her Great-grandchildren: Jayden, Justin, Jaxson, Malachi, Dominic, Isaiah, Trevion, Sincere, Erianne and the one that she gave extra attention to, her boy Dillaun. Lula had special love for the Hayes children: Sharita, Shawnda, Alisha, LaTosha,TJ (Terence, Jr.) Troy and Tanesha and all of the children of Faith Deliverance C.O.G.I.C.; Her special friend of over 50 years, Edith (Kate) Childress and a host of other family and friends.
Lula has carried the torch, laid the foundation, created the groundwork, established integrity, given her soul, paved the way, created a path and helped so many. Today we celebrate her life and her legacy.
