Pauline Jordan, age 85, of Dayton, Ohio, passed peacefully from life on Friday, March 11, 2016, at Maria-Joseph Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dayton. Born Idella Pauline Pringle on April 2, 1930, in Slab Fork, West Virginia, she was the fifth child of Thomas and Idella Pringle. Raised in the coal fields of Appalachia and rural Lawrence County, Ohio, she graduated from South Point Delta High School in South Point, Ohio. Shortly afterward, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she resided more than 60 years. She retired as logistics clerical specialist from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base after 30-plus years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lillian (Harmon) Robinson, Mary Pringle, and Allene (Kenneth) Oglesby, and brother Donald Pringle; niece Vivian Bush and nephew Charles Oldham; and great-nephew Jason Long and great-niece Tiffany Long–all of metro Dayton.
The mother of two, Pauline leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories: her loving daughter, the Rev. Sarah Pringle-Lewis of Bangor, Maine, and devoted son Vincent Jordan of Trotwood, Ohio; grandsons Joshua Lewis of Austin, Texas, Noah Wells-Jordan of Sacramento, California, and Greyson Goins of Zanesville, Ohio, and granddaughter Aria Wells-Jordan of Sacramento; great-granddaughter Xyrille Wells-Jordan of Sacramento; brother Charles Pringle of Trotwood, Ohio; nephews Gregory Wood of Centerville, Ohio, and Ken Oglesby of Lewisville, Texas; nieces Linda (Alton) Raymond of Placerville, California, and Cynthia (Robert) Letterman of Union, Ohio; a host of cousins; and many other relatives and friends.
Pauline "came to the cross" as a child and was baptized in the Christian faith at Macedonia Baptist Church in Lawrence County, Ohio. She was a 60-plus-years member of The Shiloh Baptist Church in Dayton, having joined upon her arrival in Dayton in 1950, and continuing her membership until her death. Pauline loved attending services, singing in the church's senior choir and reading the Bible. She was an avid traveler who visited most major American cities as well as Canada and the Caribbean, enjoyed a good game of poker and light gambling at the casino, gospel music, and Alfred Hitchcock films and Western movies. Pauline particularly loved spending time with her grandchildren and other family members.
The funeral service will be held Friday, March 18, 2016, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at The Shiloh Baptist Church, 3801 Fairbanks Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45402. (Prior to the service, a family-members-only gathering will be held 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.). Interment will take place at Jefferson View Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.
Friends and colleagues of Pauline are invited to join the family for a repast, celebrating her life, immediately following the funeral service at The Shiloh Baptist Church.
